More than 3,000 died from COVID yesterday, more Americans that died on 9/11. The national death toll exceeds 290,000 and at the rate that our fellow citizens are dropping, we might crash the infamous 300,000 barrier by the end of this weekend.

And Trump? He has almost 20 Republican state attorneys suing to throw out millions of votes in order for Trump to serve a second term. I have voted for Republicans in local elections, but based on their commitment to a monarchy rather than a democracy, I will never vote for a Republican again. Rather than sentencing the king to the guillotine as the French did, the Republicans want to crown this aristocrat King Donald I. And don't think there isn't a King Donald II or a Queen Ivanka I waiting in the wings.

Combine one's own depression with the depression of COVID killing our people and Trump killing our government with the aid of his cowering Republicans, we ask ourselves if there will come a time when we have survived these pernicious threats to both our mental and physical health? Forget the Russians and the Chinese. We have become the enemy.

Friends of mine are celebrating Biden's victory and Trump's loss. What victory? I will say it again. There will be no Biden victory until January 20th when the former vice-president takes the oath of office. Trump still has 41 more days in office (What will be the COVID death total be by that date since Trump could give a shit about the number of American deaths? The only figure that mesmerizes him is four more years) and he will spend every second of that time trying to reverse an election that he lost by more than seven million votes and by a whopping 306 to 232 vote in the electoral college.

Noah would have never survived 40 days and nights at sea had Trump been his God. And we're expected to survive the next 41 days drowning in this insanity! Trump may not have the power to eliminate the human race, but he will stop at nothing to obliterate the human race as we know it in this country. 

We are enveloped by the tentacles a tyrannical kraken. So far the judiciary has lived up to the checks-and-balance system. Will the Supreme Court side with the people or the potentate? Trump is banking on his three appointees and three other conservative judges on the nine-person court to rule in his favor.

I am hopeful that our democracy will survive, but I am not confident that we will win in the end. The Republicans, with a regal reactionary holding the reins, is comprised of racists, rednecks, renegades, reactionaries, Religious Right bigots and rabid right-wing rich. Dictators find sympathy in this ignorant faction. 

Though the Democrats brought 81 million to the polls, Trump counts on an army of 74 million. These extremists could care less about democracy. They have sold their souls to the diabolical Trump and the Republican Party. They want to rain so much fire and brimstone on our nation that the ark would have sunk on the first day.

My patio faces east. In the early afternoon the sun has embarked on its ancient descent toward the west and I relax on my lawn chair in the shade. I breathe deeply. My lungs are clear. Coronavirus has me contemplating life from a variety of angles. I am led to believe that those who suffer death from the disease suffocate. That doesn't sound like a pleasant exit to me. As a result of this grim reality, I have quit smoking dope. I don't want to weaken my lungs any more than 55 years of puffing on joints has wreaked on them.
