I don't know if Coronavirus will ambush me and I will lose my sense of taste and smell. But I haven't been struck. More than180,000 dead Americans and more than six million diagnosed Americans haven't been so lucky.

If I hear someone farting over a toilet, I assume he's taking a shit. If I see a dog taking a dump, I assume it's shit. If someone serves me a brown mound and it smells like crap, I assume it's shit. If a person shoves a spoonful of a thick brown substance into his mouth and starts vomiting, I assume it's shit. If I observe a baby extracting a dark glob from his diaper, I assume it's shit.

But where I see shit, Trump's followers see chocolate. They only have one reality and it's Trump's reality.

My patio faces east. In the early afternoon the sun has embarked on its ancient descent toward the west and I relax on my lawn chair in the shade. I breathe deeply. My lungs are clear. Coronavirus has me contemplating life from a variety of angles. I am led to believe that those who suffer death from the disease suffocate. That doesn't sound like a pleasant exit to me. As a result of this grim reality, I have quit smoking dope. I don't want to weaken my lungs any more than 55 years of puffing on joints has wreaked on them. I have been retired for three years from the BISD after the superintendent threatened to fire me if I kept writing. I chose to keep writing. It is my spiritual calling.
