Brownsville is the dirtiest place in America. Whether it's the river, the resacas or the parking lots, trash is strewn everywhere.

I live in a master-planned community in Harlingen with a large park and fancy landscaping. We pick up our trash, but you can't expect trash to collect their own trash.

The HEB parking lots are dumps. Do the people of this town intentionally leave diapers, cups and bags on the ground? Don't they know better? Is it a Mexican thing?

Have you crossed Gateway Bridge and looked down at the river? The river is filthy. It's scary to think this is the source of drinking water. Is filth a Mexican thing?

I've walked the Trail of Trees Park. It's so bad azz. But even here, people come and throw trash on the ground. It pisses me off to see trash floating on the water every day. The park is supposed to be beautiful, but these low-lifes just litter wherever they want.

The same thing happens at TSC/UTRGV. It is supposed to be a pretty area, but the people just don't know better.

Brownsville is a Fourth-World City. What should we expect! It is where the First World and the Third World empty their wastes. Brownsville is the All-American Sewer where people with shit for brains are led by politicians who are full of crap.

My patio faces east. In the early afternoon the sun has embarked on its ancient descent toward the west and I relax on my lawn chair in the shade. I breathe deeply. My lungs are clear. Coronavirus has me contemplating life from a variety of angles. I am led to believe that those who suffer death from the disease suffocate. That doesn't sound like a pleasant exit to me. As a result of this grim reality, I have quit smoking dope. I don't want to weaken my lungs any more than 55 years of puffing on joints has wreaked on them. I have been retired for three years from the BISD after the superintendent threatened to fire me if I kept writing. I chose to keep writing. It is my spiritual calling. I had contributed 39 years to the school district and I was working for free. Retirement was a logical option. I don't miss the job, but I do miss my students, athletes and colleagues.
