After the uproar caused by the photo of a lynching that I featured on my site, Facebook has sentenced me to another 30 days of hard labor. For a moment, I thought FB founder Mark Zuckerberg was going to order that I be hung. 

When the United States was as bad as South Africa if not worse, racists used to send postcards of lynchings. Facebook has the right to censor as it pleases.

When I worked for various newspapers, editors deleted some of my best quotes or passages. You can't always get what you want. Writing, if you have something worth while to say, is a rough and tumble business.

No differently from individuals who would be willing to surrender their personal freedoms in exchange for the safety of a police state, there are many who would compromise their First Amendment rights in order to avoid facing the brutality of the truth.

The Murphy Report faces fewer restrictions and I have freedoms that I can't exercise on Facebook, but blogs are subject to closure. The powerful will stop at nothing to silence the powerless if the latter become too much of an inconvenience.

My patio faces east. In the early afternoon the sun has embarked on its ancient descent toward the west and I relax on my lawn chair in the shade. I breathe deeply. My lungs are clear. Coronavirus has me contemplating life from a variety of angles. I am led to believe that those who suffer death from the disease suffocate. That doesn't sound like a pleasant exit to me. As a result of this grim reality, I have quit smoking dope. I don't want to weaken my lungs any more than 55 years of puffing on joints has wreaked on them. I have been retired for three years from the BISD after the superintendent threatened to fire me if I kept writing. I chose to keep writing. It is my spiritual calling.
