The vice-presidential debate is in the books. More than 215,000 are in their graves. Donald Trump is in The White House suffering from COVID. Joe Biden is in the driver's seat. Melania Trump won't let the president in her bedroom. COVID may be the less of the infections that she has caught from him. Stormy Daniels, whom Trump was boinking while his wife was pregnant, has demonstrated from her creampie videos that she isn't one to take precautions.

The presidential election will be over in 26 days. Will Trump and Pence's days be over? The polls are indicating that Biden may win by an impressive margin if not by a landslide. But we Democrats learned a tough lesson in 2016 when Trump, who is spreading death these days, pulled the upset of the century. Hillary was running victory laps when there were miles and miles ahead of her. She collapsed before she reached the finish line and for the second time in recorded history the tortoise beat the hare.

Did the vice-presidential debate move the needle? Not a millimeter. Both Mike Pence and Kamala Harris were auditioning for 2024 if Biden doesn't seek reelection or is dead. Pence is a smooth operator, but if the backyard is full of shit, how many holes can a cat dig to cover up the crap? Harris was introducing herself to the American people and she has Michelle Obama's charisma. In boxing terms it was a split decision with the third card going 143-142, the winner depending on your bias. There were lots of jabs, but nobody dominated and there were no knockdowns.

For a student learning about debating, this was a 101 course. For true aficionados, it was entertaining listening to two skilled politicians bob and weave. After Trump's disastrous performance, Pence and Harris both deserve credit for returning dignity to the process. But in terms of winning and losing within the bigger picture, there was a winner and a loser. With Trump falling further behind, Pence found himself in a position where he needed to score a knockout. He never came close. First and foremost, he doesn't have a big punch and Harris can't be cornered. As the pundits say, vice-presidential debates have little effect on the outcome and this confrontation didn't vary from that tradition.

The president and ex-vice president have two more debates scheduled, but with Trump ill, it is impossible to predict if they will meet again. The Commission on Presidential Debates has determined that the next clash will be virtual, but Trump, who is moaning and groaning 99% of the time, says he won't participate in this format. Biden says he will, but he doesn't want to share a stage for another Trump spectacle. Trump wants to drag him into the mud and Biden knows that his image isn't enhanced wrestling with a pig.

With Trump fast approaching a time in the game when not even a Hail Mary pass can save him from defeat, Biden can cruise through town meetings and liberal media interviews to promote himself as the common man who has the experience and expertise to return the country to normalcy and bring people together. People hate Trump. People don't hate Biden like they did Clinton. The voters see him as a regular guy with common sense. No Americans consider Trump an average guy--average guys aren't nuts nor are they rich pricks--and he has no sense. Bet on Biden and you will be in the money.
